Broodfeast Silksong Location: Finding the Huntress and Finishing the Hunt
The Broodfeast quest stands as one of the most mechanically demanding yet rewarding hunt missions in Pharloom. Completing this task grants Hornet the Longclaw, a tool that provides a permanent extension to her needle reach, effectively functioning as the spiritual successor to the Longnail charm from Hallownest. However, many travelers find themselves lost within the labyrinthine tunnels of the Putrified Ducts or struggling to understand the specific elemental requirements for harvesting the necessary organs. Successfully navigating this quest requires a mix of precise platforming, tool management, and knowledge of Pharloom’s ecology.
Reaching the Putrified Ducts
The Broodfeast quest is centered in the Putrified Ducts, a high-altitude, toxic region located in the upper-right quadrant of the Pharloom map. Before attempting to locate the Huntress, specific movement abilities must be acquired. Accessing the heart of the ducts is virtually impossible without the Claw Line and the Fay Down Cloak. These tools allow Hornet to navigate the vertical shafts and avoid the lethal vine traps that dominate the local environment.
The most straightforward path to the Putrified Ducts involves traveling through the Memorium area. From the Citadel roof, navigate toward the left side and drop into the upper entrance of the ducts. This descent is perilous, filled with acidic pools and enemies that inflict heavy contact damage. Upon entry, the immediate priority is to locate and activate the Bellway station and the nearby bench. Having a local respawn point is crucial, as the trek back from lower regions like Bone Bottom or Deep Docks is time-consuming and fraught with danger.
Locating the Huntress
The NPC responsible for initiating the Broodfeast quest is the Huntress. To find her, head to the bottom-left section of the Putrified Ducts zone. Look for a vertical shaft that seems to lead to a dead end. Near the base of this shaft, there is a subtle breakable wall on the left side. Striking this wall reveals a hidden chamber containing a modest hut. Inside resides the Huntress, a massive, imposing predator who demands a feast for her growing brood in exchange for sparing Hornet.
It is important to note the timing of this encounter. If the main story progresses into the mid-point of Act 3 before this quest is initiated, the Huntress will no longer be present. In her place, players will encounter Runt, one of her offspring. While the quest title changes to "Runt Feast," the objectives, requirements, and ultimate reward remain identical. Regardless of the NPC present, the dialogue will trigger the hunt for three distinct types of biological material: Seared Organs, Shredded Organs, and Skewered Organs.
Tool Requirements for Organ Harvesting
The most confusing aspect of the Broodfeast quest is that standard needle strikes will not yield the required drops. Each organ type requires a specific elemental or mechanical finishing blow. If an enemy is killed with a basic attack or a tool that does not match the requirement, they will drop standard rosaries but no quest items.
1. Seared Organs (15 Required)
To obtain Seared Organs, the killing blow must be delivered via fire-based damage. There are three primary methods for this:
- Flint Slate: This is the most reliable tool for the task. When activated, it temporarily imbues Hornet’s needle with flame. To find the Flint Slate, travel to the Deep Docks. You will need a Simple Key, which can be purchased from Pebb in Bone Bottom for 500 rosaries or found on a pilgrim’s corpse in the Sands of Karak. Use the key to unlock the ornate gate to the east of the Forge Daughter’s forge. Navigate through the steam vents and climbing sections to find the Flint Slate resting on an altar in the second chamber.
- Wisp Fire Lantern: Dropped by the Father of the Flame in the Wisp Thicket, this tool summons a fire wisp that seeks out enemies. While slower than the Flint Slate, it is safer for players who prefer to keep their distance.
- Pimpillo Bombs: These can be used, but their bouncy physics makes them less efficient for precise kills.
Warning: Do not equip the Pollip Pouch during this phase. The pouch converts fire damage into venom damage, which will prevent Seared Organs from dropping.
2. Shredded Organs (35 Required)
Shredded Organs require a multi-hit, rotary, or "drilling" finishing blow. Given the high quantity required (35), efficiency is paramount.
- Cogwork Wheel: This tool is the gold standard for this quest. It can be purchased from the Twelfth Architect in the Underworks for 360 rosaries and one piece of Craft Metal. When thrown, the wheel spins in place or travels along the ground, dealing multiple rapid hits. If the wheel is spinning when the enemy's health reaches zero, a Shredded Organ is guaranteed to drop.
- Architect’s Crest: For those in the late game, equipping this crest changes Hornet's pogo and dash attacks into shredding motions, allowing for organ collection without consuming tool charges.
3. Skewered Organs (10 Required)
These organs require piercing damage, typically delivered through projectile tools.
- Long Pin: Found in Shellwood, tucked behind a breakable wood wasp nest above the lower entrance to Bell Hart. The Long Pin travels in a straight line and pierces through multiple enemies, making it excellent for clearing groups and harvesting organs simultaneously.
- Sting Shard: Purchased from the Forge Daughter in Deep Docks. While powerful, the Sting Shard acts as a trap that explodes into spines. It is often harder to time the killing blow with this tool compared to the Long Pin.
The Optimal Farming Route
Attempting to farm these organs within the Putrified Ducts themselves is a common mistake. The enemies there are hardy, deal high damage, and the terrain is treacherous. Instead, the most efficient strategy is to backtrack to an earlier region with high enemy density and weak foes.
Greymoor’s "Midway House" is widely considered the best farming location for the Broodfeast. To the right of the Midway House bench, there is a long corridor populated by six Pilgrims. These enemies have low health and predictable movement patterns.
The Strategy:
- Equip the Flint Slate. Enter the corridor, strike the Pilgrims until they are near death, then activate the slate and finish them with a flaming needle strike.
- Repeat the process with the Cogwork Wheel. Since the wheel deals multiple hits, it often yields 2-3 Shredded Organs per kill if the enemy has enough health to sustain the full rotation.
- Finally, use the Long Pin to skewer the remaining foes.
- Return to the Midway House bench to respawn the enemies.
By using this route, all 60 organs (15 seared, 35 shredded, 10 skewered) can be collected in approximately ten to fifteen minutes. This is significantly faster than trying to harvest them while progressing through the main story.
Delivering the Feast and the Longclaw Reward
Once the inventory contains the full tally of organs, return to the hut in the Putrified Ducts. If you started the quest with the Huntress but progressed the story too far, do not be alarmed to find Runt there instead. Handing over the organs triggers a unique dialogue sequence where the brood is fed.
As a token of gratitude (or perhaps just as a byproduct of being satiated), the NPC provides the Longclaw. This tool is a blue/support-type item. Unlike active combat tools that require silk or charges to throw, the Longclaw acts as a passive enhancement when equipped in the tool slot. It increases the hit-box of Hornet's needle by roughly 25%, allowing her to strike enemies and environmental triggers from a much safer distance. This is particularly effective in boss encounters where "pogoing" (striking downward) is a primary strategy, as it provides a larger margin for error above hazardous arenas.
Technical Considerations and Tips
When undertaking the Broodfeast, consider the state of your Tool Pouch. It is highly recommended to have at least two Pouch upgrades before starting the heavy farming. Each upgrade increases the maximum capacity of tools like the Cogwork Wheel and Long Pin, reducing the number of times you need to return to a bench to restock.
Additionally, pay attention to the "Final Blow" mechanic. The game determines the organ drop based solely on the last hit. If you use a flaming needle to bring an enemy to 1HP, but then accidentally hit them with a standard dash or a different tool, you will lose the organ for that kill. Precision is key. For Seared Organs specifically, the Flint Slate's buff lasts for a limited duration; ensure you are standing in the middle of a pack of enemies before activating it to maximize the number of kills per use.
Finally, for those struggling with the Deep Docks navigation to find the Flint Slate, remember that the lava in the lower sections can be bypassed using the Fay Down Cloak’s hover ability or by carefully timing jumps between the moving cooling platforms. If you lack the Simple Key, the merchant Ju Bilana in Song Clave will occasionally sell one after you complete the "Wandering Merchant" side-quest, providing an alternative for players who haven't explored the Sands of Karak yet.
Completing the Broodfeast is a significant milestone in any Silksong playthrough. It not only provides a massive tactical advantage via the Longclaw but also offers a deep look into the predatory nature of Pharloom’s inhabitants. With the right tools and a disciplined approach to farming in Greymoor, the gruesome task can be finished quickly, leaving Hornet better equipped for the challenges of the Citadel and beyond.
