Flying Manor Expedition 33: How to Beat Clea and Find Every Secret
The Flying Manor represents one of the most visually striking and mechanically challenging endgame segments in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Located as a floating island southwest of Monoco's Station, this surreal atelier serves as a major milestone in Act III. Reaching it is not a matter of mere exploration; players must utilize Esquie's flight ability on the world map to gain entry. Once inside, the manor unfolds as a complex gauntlet requiring both strategic combat and keen observation.
Understanding the Flying Manor objective
Upon entering the Flying Manor, the primary objective is to free the woman trapped within—Clea. The central plaza features four large glass display cases, each housing a phantom of a boss previously encountered during the main story: the Du Alliste, Go Blu, the Lamp Master, and the Évêque trio. A young boy in the center explains that the atelier is locked behind the "colors" of these beings. To unlock the path to the north, all four bosses must be defeated in their empowered forms. While they can be tackled in any order, the difficulty scaling suggests following the sequence in which they first appeared in the narrative.
The Central Plaza: Initial exploration
Before rushing into the boss paths, the plaza itself contains valuable resources. Descending the initial stairs and checking the area behind the columns reveals a ledge with a light rope. This leads to a massive picture frame where the Protecting Shots (Level 28) Pictos can be found at the broken edge.
Directly across from the entrance, a Gestral offers optional lore about a "Chroma Maestro" that appeared after the fracture. This dialogue provides context for the distorted nature of the manor. After speaking with the boy and activating the Central Plaza Expedition Flag, it is time to choose a path.
Path of the Évêque: The Elemental Gauntlet
The path to the Évêques is located to the northeast. This route involves navigating a series of crumbling picture frames and cathedral-style ruins. Along the way, players encounter a variety of enemies including Jars and Ramasseurs.
Notable loot in the Cathedral
- Ramasson (Lv. 28): Dropped by the initial group of enemies.
- Abysseram & Batt Lum (Lv. 28): Obtained by defeating the Bourgeon hidden in the center of the cathedral.
- Energising Stun (Lv. 28): Found inside a paint cage. To unlock it, three locks must be destroyed: one on the Évêque statue, one on the stairs behind, and one hidden behind a paint spike.
- Painter Pictos: Located on a corpse across a gap that requires grappling.
Boss Battle: Flame, Frost, and Thunder Évêque
This version of the Évêque fight introduces a rotating invulnerability mechanic. At any given time, two of the three sisters will be shielded. During the player's turn, only the unshielded sister can be damaged. However, these shields vanish during the enemy's attack phase, meaning well-timed parries and counter-attacks can damage all three simultaneously.
Focusing on elemental resistances is vital here. Each sister uses predictable but high-damage spells: Spear Impale, Eruption, and Ranged Blasts. Listen for the audio cues; the third eruption in their sequence is usually the one that tracks the player. Defeating them yields a Perfect Chroma Catalyst and 15 Colours of Lumina.
Path of the Lamp Master: The Shadows and the Gargant
Heading south from the plaza and taking the lift down leads to the Lamp Master’s domain. This path is guarded by the Gargant, a giant enemy fighting alongside two Danseuses. The Gargant is particularly weak to fire damage. Defeating it clears the path to a light rope and yields the Snow Im (Level 29) and Anti-Burn Pictos.
Boss Battle: Lamp Master
The Lamp Master fight focuses on environmental interaction. Around the boss are several glowing lanterns. Aiming attacks at these lanterns significantly weakens the boss, making it vulnerable to heavy physical or void damage. Upon victory, players receive the Joy Aro (Level 28) and another Perfect Chroma Catalyst.
Path of Go Blu: The Ascent
The western lift leads to the Go Blu path. This area features a vertical layout involving multiple ropes and hidden alcoves.
Key discoveries on this path:
- Clea Haircut (Maelle): Dropped by a Mime located in a cave reachable by a small light rope near the portier statues.
- Empowering Break: Guarded by a group of enemies after a grapple point.
- Fusoka’s Shop: A unique merchant who can be fought for rewards. Fusoka sells high-level Pictos like Stay Marked, Accelerating Shots, and Gradient Breaker, all at Level 28.
Boss Battle: Go Blu
The Go Blu remains a test of agility and break management. Its patterns are faster than its previous iterations, but the core strategy of building the break gauge remains effective. Defeating it provides three Grandiose Chroma Catalysts and unlocks the Energising Shots (Level 28) nearby.
Path of the Du Alliste: Precision Combat
The final path involves navigating a series of rock platforms and light ropes to the east. This area is more straightforward but features denser enemy groups, including the Gross Tête and additional Bourgeons.
Boss Battle: Du Alliste
The Du Alliste is a master of parrying. Players should avoid using heavy, slow attacks unless the boss is in a recovery state. Once defeated, it drops the Dual Iso (Level 28). In the nearby area, a paint cage contains the Powerful Revive (Level 28) Pictos, which is essential for the upcoming final encounter.
The True Challenge: How to defeat Clea
Once all four pedestals are lit, the door in the central plaza opens. Inside the atelier waits Clea. This is arguably the most technical fight in the game, recommended for characters at Level 90 or higher.
Clea’s mechanics: The memory game
Clea does not fight directly. Instead, she summons Nevr ons (memories of enemies you have fought throughout the game). Her attacks are long, multi-hit combos that require precise parrying.
The Healing Factor: This is the most critical aspect of the fight. Clea heals for approximately 500,000 health every time she successfully lands a hit. If the player fails to parry her combos, she will effectively negate all damage dealt in the previous turn. Success in this fight is dictated by defensive perfection.
Strategy and Team Composition
- Primary DPS (Maelle): Clea is weak to Void and Light, but resistant to Physical. Maelle, equipped with the Medalum and the Virtuose Stance, is the optimal damage dealer. Using the Painter Pictos can also convert physical attacks into Void damage, further boosting her output.
- Support (Sciel): Sciel is mandatory for her Fortune’s Fury (doubles the next attack's damage) and Marking Card. Her agility should be prioritized so she can buff Maelle before the DPS phase begins.
- Utility (Lune): Lune provides essential revives via Rebirth and can stack burns with Hell. Alternatively, Monoco can be used for his elemental buffs if he has been heavily invested in.
Specific Combo Breakdowns
- Powerful Nevr ons: A three-hit attack starting with a Du Alliste downward slash, followed by a Braseleur slam, and ending with a Portier slam. All three require rhythmic parries.
- Violent Nevr ons: A five-hit sequence involving a Chalier sweep (parry) and Stalacts (jump). The pattern is: Parry, Jump, Parry, Jump, then a final delayed Parry for the Stalact slam.
- Nevr ons from the Deep: A six-hit combo where a Bourgeon can swallow a party member permanently if you are hit. Parry the Rocher swipes twice, then the Go Blu twice, then the slow Bourgeon slam, and finally the Du Alliste slash.
- Musical Nevr ons: Four consecutive vertical waves followed by a delayed uppercut. Watch the energy waves carefully; they are faster than they appear.
Winning the battle
Do not attempt to win through attrition. Instead, focus on high-burst damage turns. Buff Maelle with Sciel's skills, use Augmented First Strike, and aim for a single turn that exceeds one million damage to overcome Clea's potential healing.
Upon victory, Clea drops the Clea’s Life Pictos (Level 30), which provides a 100% health recovery if no damage was taken in the previous turn. You also receive a Perfect Chroma Catalyst to max out your primary weapon.
Completion Checklist and Outfits
After Clea is defeated, return to the boy in the plaza to receive the unique Clea Outfit for Maelle, Lune, or Sciel. Before leaving the Flying Manor, ensure you have collected all unique items to maximize your endgame potential:
- Clea Haircut (Maelle): From the Mime in the Go Blu path.
- Perfect Chroma Catalysts: Total of four can be found by completing all paths and the final boss.
- Level 28 Weapons: Ensure you have found the Ramasson, Snow Im, Joy Aro, and Dual Iso upgrades.
- Special Pictos: Painter and Roulette are vital for experimental builds.
The Flying Manor is a testament to the player's mastery of the combat system. By treating the Clea fight as a rhythmic memory challenge rather than a standard RPG brawl, you will find the encounter significantly more manageable. The rewards, specifically the Level 30 Pictos and catalysts, are essential for tackling the final chapters of Expedition 33.
