Grim Legends 1 Walkthrough: Complete Ravenbrook Survival Guide
Ravenbrook is a village shrouded in mist and superstition, where an ancient abyss threatens to consume the innocent. As a traveler returning for your twin sister's wedding, you are quickly thrust into a supernatural kidnapping plot. This comprehensive walkthrough covers every major puzzle and item interaction in Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride, ensuring you reach the credits and save your sister from the shadow.
Essential Gameplay Mechanics
Before diving into the step-by-step progression, understanding the core systems will make the journey through the forest much smoother.
The Little Helper
Early in the game, you will rescue a small cat. This kitty is not just for show; it is an essential tool. Whenever you see an object out of reach—high on a branch or deep in a narrow crevice—select the cat icon from your inventory and click the target. The cat will retrieve the item for you. If you are stuck, look up; chances are the cat needs to intervene.
Hidden Object Puzzles (HOP) vs. Dominoes
Grim Legends 1 offers a unique alternative for players who find traditional hidden object scenes tedious. At the start of any HOP, you can switch to a Dominoes game. Completing the Dominoes game grants you the same story-essential item. Note that for achievement hunters, you will need to play through the game twice: once doing only HOPs and once doing only Dominoes.
Difficulty Settings
Expert mode removes the sparkle indicators for active areas and significantly slows down the hint and skip recharge timers. If you are following this guide, Expert mode is recommended to experience the atmosphere as intended, as the solutions provided here bypass the need for in-game hints.
Prologue: The Road to Ravenbrook
The journey begins with a carriage accident. Your first task is to secure the area and find a way into the village.
- The Carriage: Zoom in on the trunk at the back of the carriage. Take the Iron Claw.
- The Statue: Move to the left statue. Use the Iron Claw on the hand where a finger is missing to receive the Crozier (staff).
- The Dreamcatcher: Look at the tree on the left. Take the Gold Coin from the center of the ornament.
- The Wheel: Zoom into the base of the carriage wheel. Use the Gold Coin on the screw holding the scissors to get an Improvised Blade.
- Rescue: Use the Crozier on the rope hanging from the trunk. Use the Improvised Blade to cut it.
- The Cat: After the trunk falls, zoom in and use your Wool Scarf (from your inventory) to rescue the kitten. You now have your helper.
- The Chest: Use the kitten to reach the Bird Charm on the high branch. Pick up the Wire from the ground. Use the Wire to pick the lock on the chest by the carriage.
The Necklace Puzzle: You must arrange the stones to form a continuous pattern. Slide the orange jewel to the center, the red down, the blue left, and the green up. Rotate the outer circle until they align with the inner colors, then move the orange jewel back to its slot. Connect the chains between matching flowers based on the number of petals.
Take the Necklace and proceed to the village.
Chapter 1: The Village Square and the Inn
Upon entering Ravenbrook, talk to the villagers to unlock the "Gossip Queen" progress. Give the Necklace to Lilly.
Investigating the Inn
After the bear attack, enter the Inn.
- Light the Way: Take the Candle from the candelabra on the right window.
- The Lantern: Zoom in on the table. Assemble the lantern pieces onto the frame. Use the Candle to light it. Take the Lantern.
- The Archway: Exit through the left archway into the dark woods. Use the Lantern to reveal the path.
The Statue Gate
- Statue Parts: Zoom in on the statue on the left. Pick up the Eye from the leaves and place it in the socket. Take the Horn and place it in the head. This reveals the Emblem.
- The Hunter's Hut: Follow the path to the hut. Pick up the Axe embedded in the stump. Use the Axe to clear the boards on the hut door.
- Inside the Hut: Locate the Net and the Matches. Look at the recipe on the table; you will need to brew a sedative soon.
Chapter 2: The Forest Depths and the Hermit
To find the bridge, you must navigate deeper into the woods where the environment becomes more hostile.
- The Abyss Edge: Use the Net to catch the Mechanical Butterfly hovering near the chasm.
- The Bridge Mechanism: There is a missing gear. Go back to the village square and check the basement of the general store.
- The Basement Puzzle: Use the Mechanical Butterfly on the slot of the ornate box. Inside, you will find the Small Gear and a Glass Lens.
- Repairing the Bridge: Return to the bridge mechanism. Place the Small Gear. Use the Matches to burn away the thick cobwebs. Turn the crank to lower the bridge.
Meeting the Hermit
Across the bridge, you will find the Hermit's treehouse.
- The Climbing Gear: You need to reach the upper platform. Use the cat helper to drop the Rope Ladder.
- The Alchemist's Request: The Hermit won't help until you heal his owl. You need three ingredients: Moon Berry, Glowing Mushroom, and Silver Bark.
- Collecting Ingredients:
- Moon Berry: Found in the bush near the bridge. Use the Improvised Blade to harvest.
- Glowing Mushroom: Found in the damp cave behind the waterfall.
- Silver Bark: Use the Axe on the white tree near the statue gate.
- Brewing: Return to the Hermit's lab. Place the ingredients in the mortar. Use the pestle to grind them. Pour the mixture into the vial and heat it over the burner using your Matches.
Give the medicine to the owl. The Hermit will grant you the Sun Medallion, which is the key to the castle gates.
Chapter 3: The Castle of Shadows
The castle is where the difficulty spikes with complex mechanical puzzles.
The Gate Entry
Place the Sun Medallion into the center of the main gate. This triggers a rotation puzzle. You must align the sun rays with the corresponding symbols on the outer ring. Start from the innermost ring and work outward.
The Grand Hall
- The Knight Statues: The knight on the left is missing a sword; the knight on the right is missing a shield.
- The Sword: Found in the armory (right door). You must solve a HOP to uncover the Ornate Blade.
- The Shield: Found in the gallery (left door). It is hidden behind a painting of the First King. Use the Improvised Blade to cut the canvas.
- Activation: Place the sword and shield on the statues. The floor will open, revealing a secret staircase to the dungeons.
The Dungeon Rescue
You find Lilly locked in a cage.
- The Key: The guard's keys are hanging on a hook across a bed of spikes. Use the cat helper to retrieve the Cell Keys.
- The Lock: The lock is rusted. Go back to the armory and find the Oil Can. Use the Oil Can on the lock, then use the Cell Keys.
Lilly is safe, but the shadow figure (The Bear) appears and takes her further into the Abyss. You must follow.
Chapter 4: The Abyss and the Final Ritual
This is the climax of the main story. You are now on the outskirts of the village, heading toward the literal Abyss.
The Potion of Sight
The Abyss is covered in magical darkness. You need a potion to see through it.
- The Cauldron: Locate the old cauldron near the village outskirts.
- The Ingredients: You need Wolfsbane, Black Salt, and Crow Feather.
- Wolfsbane: Near the abyss entrance.
- Black Salt: Found in the burnt remains of the carriage from the prologue (you must backtrack).
- Crow Feather: Use the cat to scare the crow on the signpost; it will drop the feather.
- The Sight: Drink the potion. The darkness clears, revealing a path of floating stones.
The Floating Stone Puzzle
You must jump across the stones in a specific order. The symbols on your Sun Medallion provide the clue. The sequence is: Moon, Star, Sun, Cloud, Moon, Sun. If you miss a step, you reset to the beginning.
The Final Confrontation
You reach the ritual site. The Bear is revealed to be a cursed villager.
- The Mirror: You need to reflect the shadow's energy. Find the Three Mirror Shards scattered around the ritual altar.
- The Reconstruction: Place the shards back into the frame on the central pillar.
- The Light: Use the Glass Lens (from Chapter 2) on the mirror. Rotate the mirrors to direct the beam of light into the Shadow's heart.
Lilly is freed, and the curse is lifted. The main story concludes here, but the Bonus Chapter awaits for those who want the full history of Ravenbrook.
Bonus Chapter: The Spirit of the Abyss
The Bonus Chapter takes place after the main events. You play as the sister, discovering that while the body was destroyed, the spirit remains.
- The Church: Start at the church. Pick up the Dagger near the boulders. Use it to open the crate and get the Stained Glass (1/4).
- The Phoenix Scepter: This is the key item for the bonus chapter. You will find it inside the altar after solving the stained glass puzzle.
- The Golden Eggs: To open the final door in the Chamber of Fire, you must collect five golden eggs.
- Egg 1: Use the Large Shield on the stone phoenix.
- Egg 2: Use the Sling on the hanging jar.
- Egg 3: Inside the Griffin Figurine compartment.
- Egg 4: Behind the Golden Flame lock.
- Egg 5: Found by matching the accessories on the statues in the lower chamber.
- The True Name: The final puzzle requires you to find the "True Name" of the spirit. Use the Quill and Parchment on the ancient stone tablet to copy the runes. Use the runes on the figure in the cave to banish the spirit forever.
Expert Achievement Tips
To ensure you get the most out of your playthrough and unlock the trickier achievements, keep these tips in mind:
- No Hints: Never press the Hint button during a HOP. If you are stuck, refer to the screenshots or this guide.
- No Skips: During mini-games (like the mirror or the necklace), do not press the "Skip" button that appears after a few minutes. All puzzles in Grim Legends 1 are logical and can be solved with patience.
- The 1-Minute HOP: There is an achievement for clearing a HOP in under 60 seconds. The best place to do this is the very first HOP at the carriage. Since the items are few and the scene is small, you can memorize the locations and restart the game if you're too slow.
- The 3-Click Rule: On Expert difficulty, clicking three times rapidly in an incorrect area during a HOP will blur your screen. Take your time and be precise.
Final Checklist for Completion
Before you finish the game, ensure you have:
- Talked to every villager in the square (Gossip Queen).
- Used the cat helper at least 15 times (Fuzzy Lil' Fellow).
- Found all the hidden collectibles (Illusory Objects). These are items that subtly change form in the environment. There are 30 in total, mostly hidden in the forest and castle scenes.
By following this walkthrough, you have successfully navigated the dangers of Ravenbrook, solved the mystery of the Abyss, and saved your family from an ancient curse. Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride remains a benchmark for the hidden object genre, blending atmospheric storytelling with rewarding mechanical puzzles.
