Where to Find Every Orichalcum+ KH2 Location for Ultima Weapon
Forging the Ultima Weapon in Kingdom Hearts 2 represents the pinnacle of the synthesis system. This legendary Keyblade offers unparalleled stats and the invaluable MP Hastega ability, but the path to obtaining it is paved with the rarest metal in the game: Orichalcum+. There are exactly seven pieces of Orichalcum+ scattered across the various worlds, and missing even one prevents you from completing the synthesis recipe. This guide details the exact requirements and strategies needed to secure every single piece available in the Final Mix version of the game.
The Necessity of Orichalcum+
Orichalcum+ is distinct from standard Orichalcum. While the latter can be farmed from Bulky Vendors or found in common chests, Orichalcum+ is a finite resource. The Ultima Weapon recipe technically calls for thirteen pieces of this material. However, since the game only provides seven, players must utilize an Energy Crystal during the synthesis process to halve the required materials. Understanding this mechanic is the first step toward the ultimate upgrade.
1. The Space Paranoids Treasure Chest
One of the most straightforward pieces to acquire is located within Space Paranoids, the digital world inside Hollow Bastion. This item is found during your second mandatory visit to the world, specifically after the narrative progresses past the point where the MCP (Master Control Program) becomes the primary threat.
To find it, navigate to the Central Computer Mesa area. This is the final staging ground before entering the core for the boss battle against the MCP and Sark. As you exit the solar sailer and step onto the mesa, you will see a cluster of treasure chests. The Orichalcum+ is contained within one of these chests. It is highly recommended to grab this before initiating the boss fight to ensure your synthesis inventory is ready as soon as the world's story concludes.
2. Twilight Town: Sunset Terrace Mastery
The second piece is tucked away in the Sunset Terrace district of Twilight Town. This area is only accessible during Sora's visits, specifically during the latter half of the game. To reach this location, you must take the train from the Usual Spot or the Central Station to the Sunset Station.
Once you arrive at Sunset Terrace, head toward the far end of the map where the houses and shops are clustered. You are looking for a high balcony on one of the buildings. There are two primary ways to reach this chest. The traditional method involves jumping onto the moving tram car that circles the area. By timing your jump from the roof of the tram, you can reach the ledge containing the chest. Alternatively, if you have leveled up your Valor Form or Final Form to unlock High Jump or Aerial Dodge (level 2 or higher), you can bypass the tram entirely and jump directly to the balcony from the ground.
3. The World That Never Was: Brink of Despair
As you approach the end of the game, you will enter The World That Never Was. This world is home to the Organization XIII fortress and contains the third piece of Orichalcum+. The location is named the Brink of Despair, which serves as the transitional area between the city streets and the massive castle floating in the sky.
Upon reaching the Brink of Despair, you will find a Save Point and a Moogle Shop. Just past these, before you cross the long bridge leading into the Castle that Never Was, look to the left. A large treasure chest sits on a small ledge overlooking the dark abyss below. This is perhaps the easiest piece to spot, yet it is often missed by players rushing toward the final cinematic sequences. Ensure you open this chest before proceeding into the castle proper.
4. Completing the 100 Acre Wood Storyline
The fourth piece of Orichalcum+ is not found in a chest but is awarded as a completion prize for finishing the 100 Acre Wood world. Unlike other worlds, the 100 Acre Wood is entirely mini-game focused and requires you to find "Torn Pages" scattered across other worlds to progress.
To earn the Orichalcum+, you must complete the final event titled "Starry Hill." This requires recovering all five Torn Pages. Here are the locations of those pages:
- Disney Castle: Inside the Library, located in the corner of the room.
- Pride Lands: At the Oasis, near the waterfall where Simba hides.
- Hollow Bastion: In the Crystal Fissure area, found near the entrance to the canyon.
- Land of Dragons: In the Throne Room, found in a chest after the second visit's main boss.
- Agrabah: In the Ruined Chamber (within the Cave of Wonders), found during the second visit.
Once all pages are found and their respective mini-games (Piglet’s house, Rabbit’s house, the bridge, the cave, and Starry Hill) are finished, a cutscene will trigger showing the book being completed. After this, you will receive the material as a reward for helping Pooh and his friends.
5. The Final Song of Atlantica
Similar to the 100 Acre Wood, the fifth piece of Orichalcum+ is a reward for finishing the musical story of Atlantica. This world is optional in Kingdom Hearts 2, but it is mandatory for those seeking the Ultima Weapon.
Atlantica's progression is tied to Sora’s magic abilities and story progress in other worlds. You must complete the final chapter, which features the song "A New Day is Dawning." This chapter only becomes available after you have obtained the Blizzaga spell and progressed significantly through the late-game worlds.
Completing the rhythm game associated with this song will wrap up the subplot involving Ariel and King Triton. Once the credits for this world roll, the Orichalcum+ will be added to your inventory. If you find the rhythm mechanics difficult, remember that you only need a "Clear" rank to obtain the material; achieving a high score is not necessary for the synthesis item.
6. Triumph in the Goddess of Fate Cup
The sixth piece is locked behind a combat challenge in the Olympus Coliseum. You must win the Goddess of Fate Cup. However, this cup is not available at the start of the game. It only unlocks after you have completed several prerequisites:
- Clear the Pain and Panic Cup, Cerberus Cup, and Titan Cup.
- Defeat the first form of Xemnas at the skyscraper in The World That Never Was.
- Ensure that the first three cups have been completed at least once (their "Side Quest" versions are not required, just the initial win).
Once these conditions are met, speak to Panic in the Underworld Entrance to begin the Goddess of Fate Cup. This challenge consists of 10 rounds of increasingly difficult enemies. The final round pits you against Hades himself. Unlike the earlier cups, you cannot use Summons here, and Sora must rely on his Drive Forms and magic. Upon defeating Hades and winning the cup, the Orichalcum+ is awarded to you.
7. The Ultimate Collector: Moogle Synthesis Shop
The final and most time-consuming piece of Orichalcum+ is the reward for turning in every single type of synthesis material in the game to the Moogle Shop. There are 60 unique materials in Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, ranging from common Shards to rare Crystals.
This task requires significant farming of Heartless and Nobodies. To receive the Orichalcum+, you must have at least one of every material in your "Materials List" at the Moogle Shop. This includes:
- Blazing, Frost, Lightning, and Lucid materials (Shard, Stone, Gem, Crystal).
- Power, Dark, Dense, and Twilight materials (Shard, Stone, Gem, Crystal).
- Mythril materials (Shard, Stone, Gem, Crystal).
- Bright, Energy, and Serenity materials (Shard, Stone, Gem, Crystal).
- Orichalcum (the standard version).
- Manifest and Lost Illusions (found in the Cavern of Remembrance or dropped by Absent Silhouettes in Final Mix).
Once the 60th unique material is deposited, you must exit the Moogle Shop menu and re-enter. The Moogle will then present you with the final Orichalcum+ as a reward for your dedication to the craft.
Strategies for Efficient Material Farming
Since the seventh Orichalcum+ requires collecting all materials, you should optimize your gear for item drops. The "Lucky Lucky" ability is essential. Sora, Donald, and Goofy can each learn this ability naturally through leveling up. Additionally, you can synthesize and equip multiple "Lucky Rings" to stack the effect.
The drop rate for rare materials like Serenity Crystals and Twilight Crystals is significantly higher when multiple Lucky Lucky abilities are active. For example, farming the Sorcerer Nobodies in The World That Never Was for Twilight Crystals is much faster with a full stack of these abilities.
Forging the Ultima Weapon
With all seven pieces of Orichalcum+ in your possession, you are ready to visit the Moogle. You will also need the "Ultima Recipe," which is found in a chest in the Basement Corridor of the Old Mansion in Twilight Town.
As mentioned earlier, the recipe requires 13 Orichalcum+, but since you only have 7, you must use an Energy Crystal during the synthesis. This crystal is commonly dropped by Bookmasters in Radiant Garden (Hollow Bastion).
Additionally, you will need:
- 1 Orichalcum (standard)
- 1 Mythril Crystal (found in chests or synthesized)
- 1 Dense Crystal (dropped by Berserker Nobodies)
- 1 Twilight Crystal (dropped by Sorcerer Nobodies)
- 7 Serenity Crystals (dropped by high-level Heartless like Bulky Vendors or Assassin Nobodies)
Ensure your Moogle is at least Level 2 (to unlock the ability to use Energy materials) or ideally higher to reduce the overall material cost. Once synthesized, the Ultima Weapon will provide Sora with a massive boost in Strength and Magic, along with the MP Hastega ability, which allows the MP bar to recharge 75% faster after being depleted.
Timing and Progress Tracking
It is important to note that most of these locations only become available toward the very end of the game. Attempting to hunt for all seven before reaching The World That Never Was is impossible. The most efficient route is to complete the 100 Acre Wood and Atlantica as they unlock, then clean up the chests in Twilight Town and Space Paranoids during the second visit, and finally tackle the Coliseum and Synthesis collection just before the final boss fight.
By following these steps, you will secure the most powerful tool in Sora's arsenal, allowing you to face the game's secret bosses and higher difficulty settings with confidence.
